Research Projects
June 2022 - May 2025 MEGA-ACE part of Algorand Centres of Excellence (ACE) Programme. MEGA-ACE aims to transform the blockchain landscape. We are motivated by concrete problems, and aim to construct end-to-end solutions for them, starting from foundational theory and going all the way to applications. The problems will require multidisciplinary approaches, since they involve issues in areas ranging from economics and social choice to cryptography to architecture. Our ambition is to make MEGA-ACE a powerhouse for blockchain research, a forum for the exchange of ideas in the area, a center for training students in countries that currently do not provide such training, an enabler for the mobility for personnel (senior, junior, and students) within the MEGA-ACE network, and a success story of the ACE program having seeded a revolution in this space.
January 2023 - December 2024 Building Efficient and Sustainable Public Blockchains (PAPIIT 2023 - TA101723). This project proposes to analyze the so-called sustainable blockchains (Solana, Algorand, Polkadot) in addition to exploring the use of multi-layer blockchains to generate efficient and sustainable blockchain-based solutions. At the same time, using anonymization techniques (such as zero-knowledge protocols) to be included in these sustainable solutions and make them completely anonymous, this to develop applications where not knowing the identity of users is desirable (e.g., electronic voting systems). Once these proposals are ready, applications will be developed that benefit from the properties of blockchain and also have a social impact.
January 2022 – December 2022 Material en Línea Interactivo para Aprender los Principios Computacionales de Blockchain (PAPIME 2022 – PE103222). Create on-line interactive material for Engineering Faculty students to learn the computer principles of Blockchain. This material will be created as a Select Topic for the Computer Engineering study plan using different learning and teaching activities, evaluations, theory and practice. All these including various blokchain technologies such as Hyperledger Fabric, Solidity, Ganage, Metamask and Ethereum.
May 2020 - May 2021 Audit of the Internet Electronic Voting System for Mexicans Resident Abroad for the National Electoral Institute. This project was carried out in collaboration with the National Electoral Institute (INE) through the agreement UNAM-57260-440-9-IV-20 and consisted of auditing the Electronic Vote by Internet System to verify compliance with the technical requirements established in the electoral regulations, in terms of security and functionality.
January 2021 – December 2022 Generación de confianza y trazabilidad en procesamiento de información usando Linaje Electrónico basado en Blockchain (PAPIT 2021 – TA101021). This project proposes to investigate the use of electronic provenance as the technology that will make transparent the way in which certain information was obtained, created, modified, processed and stored. In this way it will be possible to analyze the way in which this information has been used and then hold the corresponding entities accountable for any misuse of such information. For this, it is proposed that the creation of the electronic provenance is improved with the use of Blockchain that would make it reliable as well as decentralized and secure.
January 2021 – December 2021 Plataforma en línea con detección de plagio para la asignatura de Criptografía (PAPIME 2021 – PE107721). Create an online platform for the subject of 'Cryptography', corresponding to the curriculum of the 'Computer Engineering' degree, which belongs to the current curriculum (2016) of the Faculty of Engineering, UNAM. This platform will contain all the content of the subject including various teaching-learning activities, theoretical and practical evaluation activities and a plagiarism detection tool for practical activities (coding).
October 2016 – September 2017 Collaborative Learning Objects Repositories to support analysis oral and written communication competences. This project is funded by the Mexican Lecturer Development Program (PRODEP). Its main goal is to create a network of public and private universities to develop repositories of learning objects. This supports the analysis of oral and written communication competences of bachelor students in computer science.
August 2014 – July 2015 Intelligent Compilation of Large Volumes of Participatory Data for Human and Civil Protection in the Face of Major Risks. Its main goal was to design a platform to gather timely and relevant data during disasters, in order to improve The Red Cross' civil protection plans.
August 2013 – July 2014 Electronic Audits for the Government Fiscal Digital Platform. Its goal was to create a design that allowed auditing behaviour of taxpayers in the Mexican Government Fiscal Digital Platform.
August 2013 – July 2014 Developing Provenance to Guarantee the Quality of Learning Objects. This project is funded by the Research and Innovation Network on Systems and Educational Environments (RIISAE) whose focus is multidisciplinary research to improve education using technology.
2010 – 2011 Security and Transparency of Information and Services. This project was funded by CONACyT. Its main goal is to create a group of people specialised in security to find opportunities to improve the governmental services.
2004 – 2005 Quality of Service and Security on Communication Networks. This project was funded by the BUAP-VIEP. Its main goal was to evaluate the quality of service and security of the TCP/IP, field buses and wireless networks (IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth) architectures by modelling and verifying its execution.
